Laying Turf Well… Laying Turf Badly…

Yep – you can really stuff it up if you don’t know what you are doing! As with all jobs of this kind preparation is everything – after that its ‘green side up’… or so you’d think… But we have seen jobs where the landscaper obviously under-ordered on turf and just left a 100mm strip down the side of the yard. Or this one where rather than butting the edges up hard he just filled the gaps with soil.   The turf will grow across, but its not what you want to see. A good lawn should be fit for […]

I am Getting a Fuse Message on my Irritirol Kwikdial Reticulation Controller

If I had a dollar for every time I hear this… And if you have spent time looking for the ‘fuse’ then you will be frustrated because there isn’t one.. And the battery symbol with the line thru it doesn’t mean that the battery is dead, because there isn’t a battery either… Ok – so whoever designed these wasn’t thinking ease of use! What does the fuse message mean? a) You have a solenoid coil that is faulty and causing the controller to fail. b) The controller has a problem and needs replacing. New Turf in Carramar

We haven’t had a heap on over winter, but here’s a job I did last week removing old patchy turf and replacing it with brand new wintergreen. We began by removing the old grass and spreading 40ml of lawn mix all over the 90m to be turfed. With some care we were able to avoid all sprinklers so the retic fix up was minimal.   The old turf     The bobcat does his thing and spreads the lawn mix.     Screeded and prepped   New turf laid and retic all working well.

What is the Best Type of Sprinkler?

A lot of people ask me what the best sprinklers are, and the answer is that it depends on the job it needs to do. Here are some pros and cons of various types of sprinklers: Standard Toro/Rainbird pop-ups:  are good sprinklers in that distribute a lot of water in a short space of time and they are cheap and easy to replace. If well maintained the sprinkler body and seals can easily last 5 years. Their negative is that their spray can mist and get easily blown by the wind. Gear Drives – Gear drives are tough and are generally used […]
