Why Does My Retic Keep Running

This is a common question. And the answer is usually very simple. Generally speaking this happens when more than one start time is set. Unless there is a watering exemption in place you are only allowed to water once a day which means you only need one start time. Often people get ‘start times’ and ‘run times’ mixed up. So get this : YOU ONLY NEED 1 START TIME! Most errors are made when people set 5.00am as a start time, then 5.15, 5.30 and so on. So when you set your controller make note of which function you are […]

The Irritrol Kiwdial Fuse Issue

Ok – possibly the single most common issue I hit each year is this problem. First up – there is no fuse and no battery in the controller! Silly I know – to have a ‘fuse’ message and a battery symbol at the same time. The average DIY would look for a dodgy fuse or a faulty battery. What the message actually means is that there is either a fault in the controller or a fault in a solenoid. The way to determine the issue is simply to remove wires and keep resetting the controller and testing it. If it […]

3 Things You Need to Do on Sep 1

1. Make sure you can see the digital display on your controller. Winter is when most controllers die so this is always the first check. If it’s dead then give me a call! 2. Run a system test of each station and check that each sprinkler is popping up and that each nozzle is spraying as it should. If there are obvious leaks then it will need fixing sooner than later. Just a blocked nozzle or two you don’t need to worry about until it gets hot. 3. Check the settings on the controller and adjust the run times for […]

If You Look Hard Enough

Yesterday I went to try and sort out why the retic pipe kept bursting on a bore in Ridgewood. Usually there is an obvious answer. The first step was a new controller and then a check that the solenoids were all opening as they should have been. All good there. I dug a hole and found two 25mm pipes going to the rear yard – but with no water coming out of the sprinklers. I drilled small holes at various points along the pipes and water cane out. Hmmm… water is definitely getting thru, is there a blockage somewhere? Has […]

New Turf in Carramar

We haven’t had a heap on over winter, but here’s a job I did last week removing old patchy turf and replacing it with brand new wintergreen. We began by removing the old grass and spreading 40ml of lawn mix all over the 90m to be turfed. With some care we were able to avoid all sprinklers so the retic fix up was minimal.   The old turf     The bobcat does his thing and spreads the lawn mix.     Screeded and prepped   New turf laid and retic all working well.

Converting From Mains Retic to a Bore?

Easy to do! If you have recently moved and are wondering if this is a worthwhile option then my tip is to do it straight away. After 5 years in our last home we began debating the merits of a bore, but knowing we may not stay much longer than another year or two we decided against it. But when we moved to Yanchep, to a home with no retic it was the first thing on the agenda. And there have been no regrets. With a bore you get: – ‘free’ water in the sense that it is not part […]

Reticulation and Turf Installation in Mindarie

If you live in Mindarie then there are a few things worth knowing before installing reticulation and turf. Water Flow: in Mindarie water flow is usually very good – at least 30l/min. Bores are a good idea as blocks are often large, but they can also be quite expensive. Soil Content: Expect a lot of limestone rocks and sandy ground. Usually this makes for hard digging and its also essential that you use some good quality lawn mix below any turf that is laid. For a free quote on any installation work in Mindarie give us a call.

Currambine Reticulation and Turf Installation

This is what we did today. After a bit of pre-lay work last week, followed by bobcat and then concretors, we went back today to finish off the retic and lay the turf. Its a real transformation from how it was a few weeks back. Rocky, limestoney ground was given a deep coating of special lawn mix before we installed regular Toro pop-ups and wintergreen turf. It looks great against the liquid limestone Here’s the ‘before’ pic. Then with limestone and lawn mix And finished
