Retic and Turf Replacement in Butler

I have had a call each year for the last two years to come and replace the turf at this small backyard in Butler. A combination of young dogs and a shaded area means it has been tough for the lawn to survive. It starts with a dig out of the old turf. Only 12m so not too much hard work. You can see the patchy old lawn below. Then it’s time to screed and update the sprinklers with some mp rotators. The regular Toro nozzles were getting blown around in the wind and dirtying the pool fence. And from […]

Backyard Reticulation Installation in Jindalee

Today’s job was to install a backyard system for a client in Jindalee. There was no retic in the place at all so we began with the sprinklers plumber, then the master valve and just one station solenoid to serve the lawn using MP Rotators. The trencher got a good workout in the established turf and we finished in good time. If you need retic installed in your backyard then be sure to give us a call!

The Irritrol Kiwdial Fuse Issue

Ok – possibly the single most common issue I hit each year is this problem. First up – there is no fuse and no battery in the controller! Silly I know – to have a ‘fuse’ message and a battery symbol at the same time. The average DIY would look for a dodgy fuse or a faulty battery. What the message actually means is that there is either a fault in the controller or a fault in a solenoid. The way to determine the issue is simply to remove wires and keep resetting the controller and testing it. If it […]

After the Bobcat…

I often get called to go in and fix the retic after the bobcat has been thru and done his work. Today I was in Butler and the bobcat had smashed thru the main line, broken the wiring as well as ripping up most of the pipe down one side of the rear. It didn’t help that the area was full of roots and that the client wasn’t completely sure on where he wanted things to go… Add to that a 3 hour deadline and intermittent rain and it was potentially a difficult day. But we got the main line […]

Why You NEED a Retic Bloke!

Why should you get a retic bloke in to fix your sprinklers? Let me tell you a story of today’s DIY mishap… Retic is just like plumbing right? Yeah that’s what I reckoned… So we needed to change over the taps and spout in our ensuite and I figured ‘it can’t be that hard – I’ll just do it myself.’ I removed the old spout, taps and shrouds without much drama and began to install the new spout. It was a tight fit – really tight – I could hardly get it on. But with some very careful manoeuvring I […]

Transforming a Verge

When you live opposite a school your front verge gets parked on more than most, but now that the council have stopped verge parking in the street it was time to revamp that verge that was looking pretty dodgy. It was pretty ugly… Then the bobcat came in Old lawn and weeds removed and 40mm of good quality soil spread. The next day I came in and repaired and reconfigured the reticulation using MP rotators to get the coverage needed. And then the Sir Walter Buffalo went down. The different looking lawn sections are just the ‘grain’ of the lawn […]

Converting From Community Bore to Mains in ‘The Green’, Butler

If you live in The Green Estate in Butler then you will probably have experienced the frustration most people do at not being able to control your own reticulation. You can only run tests at short times on a Saturday morning and no one can service your retic except for the designated company who charge an arm and a leg. This week I did my first conversion job in that area. I’m surprised I haven’t done more as I know the frustration people feel. This one was a direct change over which involved: a cut in by a plumber a new […]
